Assessment 😃

Hello everyone 💗

Today I'll talk about assessment; its importance and types of it.

We all know that assessment is quite important. There are some types of assessment, such as:

1) summative

2) formative

3) traditional

4) alternative

5) performance- based assessment

6) authentic; self- assessment and so on.

As future teachers is important to assess pupils in the right way. Pupils belong to different levels. Some of them may be good at speaking, listening or reading while others may be good at grammar or writing. Pupils are different from each-other and we should respect that. We should assess them in the right way and evaluate their progress. Is important to tell them how far they've come. That will help them build their self-confidence and motivation to keep going despite difficulties.

But how can we assess our pupils?

One form of assessment is the exam. Or called differently; the traditional assessment. To be honest, I don't like this type of evaluation due to the fact that pupils can cheat or many of them may not feel well during the exam. I would like to assess my pupils based on their performance during the whole semester.

Other types of assessments are essays and other writing tasks. These kinds of assessments may be complicated due to the fact that they aren't subjective. They are objective and for this particular reason, it may be a little bit difficult to assess essays. One way would be to evaluate its organization, structure, chronological order of ideas and of course, the use of vocabulary. While assessing an essay, is important to respect others ideas and opinions 😀

Another type of assessment can be projects. While working in groups or individually, pupils can be evaluated by teachers according to the information they collected, public speaking skills and the organization of the work. Actually projects are mostly done in groups as a way to help everyone learn a new thing. While cooperating with each-other, pupils develop critical thinking, creativity and collaboration.

Furthermore, we can assess pupils based on their ability to use technology. While incorporating new technological tools, pupils can be assessed about their knowledge in using different websites or programs, such as: kahoot, canva, genially, webquests etc. As future teachers, we can evaluate them based on their performance, how quickly they learned a new tool and how they use it for a teaching purpose.

It is important to teach pupils how to use technology correctly as a way of facilitating their life.

Well that was all for today 💗
