Contructivism & Webquests 📚

 Hello everyone 🥰

Today I am going to discuss the importance of using the constructivism theory in classroom and how to facilitate the teaching process by using webquests and different programmes 📚.

Constructivism is the theory that indicates that learners construct knowledge rather than just passively taking the information. When learners experience things on their own, they built new knowledge relying on the previous one. It is true that people learn faster by doing and by personal experience. That makes them remember things vividly.

When it comes to constructivism there are some important principles :

Knowledge is constructed ~ new knowledge is built upon the previous knowledge.
Pupils learn to learn ~ learning comes from pupils when they feel ready to do new things. Is not easy because pupils have different skills and levels. Learning is not just opening the book and reading. It means finding the right strategies to make the lesson remembered for a long period of time.
Learning is an active process ~ learning new things requires being active and not reciving information in an passive way.
Motivation is the key ~ when pupils feel motivated they become more confident and they can achieve their goals.

When it comes to use constructivism in classroom, is not an easy process. The teacher plays an essential role becase he/she should create an warm environment when pupils feel free to express their ideas, opinions, thoughts and cooporate with each-other. The teacher should know the level of the pupils and encourage working in groups. This type of classroom focus mainly on students questions and interests. As well, it is student-centered and focuses on working in pairs; building knowledge by interacting and experiencing things on their own.

But as future teachers, how can we make the learning process fun and effective? 📚

Well, there exist some programmes, like: webquests. A webquest is a method used to develop critical thinking and collaborative learning. That means that pupils or students get the information from the internet. Bascially, the teacher gives pupils a task and they will finish it by having access in an online resource. This is a good way to teach pupils new knowledge because they spend time analyzing the right information rather than trying to find it in other resources that may confuse them. The webquest works like this: the teacher does an introduction about the new lesson. Gives the tasks and pupils can work on their own or in groups. To complete the task they can click on links that can help them finish the assignment successfully. At the end, they will be evaluated about certain points that the teacher has written in the "evaluation part" of the webquest.
To make the lesson more entertaining we can as well make presentations in Canva or Genially. These two programmes have a variety of templates, colors and can make the presentations special and entertaining.

Below you can find my webquest that I prepared for 7th grade pupils. It is my first time doing a webquest so I hope I made it right 🤗

Have a nice day ☀️

  2. Hi Sara!
I found your post very helpful because you gave a well-organized explanation of constructivism as well as some key points about its principles and because of this, I was able to understand why constructivist learning is essential for developing students' skills. Also, you mentioned some tools that help constructivist learning, focusing on the learner, as well as information about Webquests, an interesting tool for us as future teachers. I agree with your opinion that the teacher plays an essential role in the classroom by creating a warm environment and students feel free to express their thoughts by cooperating with each other. I liked that you mentioned encouraging group work, which is a very important method for constructivist learning. I also appreciate that you shared your first WebQuest so we can learn more about this tool.
    You did a great job😍

  3. I like your Webquest even though it is not directly related to English as a foreign language but it can be used as an extracurricular activity and as a way to enrich vocabulary.
